Robert Jan August serves as Director of Music/Organist at First Presbyterian Church. Over the past years, Robert has held the position of Assistant University Organist and Choirmaster at The Memorial Church at Harvard University, while pursuing his doctoral degree at the New England Conservatory of Music. A native of the Netherlands, Robert comes to First Presbyterian Church from Lincoln, Nebraska, where he served as Director of Music.

Educated in the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, France, and the United States, Robert has an extensive background in organ performance, and a long history of church performance and conducting. He has served as Carillonneur at Brigham Young University, and as organist and conductor at the Kerk van Jezus Christus, Groningen, the Netherlands, and Kerk van Jezus Christus, Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. In addition to collaboration with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Christopher Hogwood, and Simon Carrington, Robert has performed throughout the United States as a solo artist and accompanist, including tours and CD recordings with the Harvard University Choir and the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra.

Robert often collaborates with his wife Dolores, who holds a Master’s degree in flute performance from the University of North Texas. Robert and Dolores have one child.
