First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth

First HAND Ministries

Mission Mission Calendar First HAND Ministries Hemphill Fellowship

Our mission is to provide:

  • Hospitality – the gracious offering of welcome to the stranger
  • Advocacy – standing with our neighbors who are in need of voices to speak with them and on their behalf
  • Nurture – care for our sisters and brothers who yearn for the warmth of love and acceptance which empowers us for new life
  • Dignity – lifting up the gifts and talents of all people as God’s creation within a safe and loving environment

The First HAND Ministry has been operating as a mission center of First Presbyterian Church since November 1, 2000. We receive referrals from as many as 50 local agencies and schools and are visited by hundreds of individuals and families in need each month for emergency financial assistance, clothing, food, and household items, and bus passes.

First HAND Clothing Room:  Help sort and stock clothing donations on Mondays or fill clothing orders on Wednesdays at our First HAND Ministries Building for individuals and families in need and those experiencing homelessness.

First HAND Food Pantry: Help pick up and stock food for the food pantry each week, assemble sacks of food, or assist with distribution on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon each week at our First HAND Ministries Building for people in need.

Downtown Legal Clinic: First Presbyterian helps host the Downtown Legal Clinic in the First H.A.N.D. building on the fourth Monday of each month (excluding December) in partnership with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. Volunteer to help with intake and hospitality at the monthly clinic. Attorneys are also always needed to offer legal advice to those in need and take cases pro bono, when possible.

Financial Assistance: First Presbyterian Church provides direct aid to individuals and families in need of assistance with rent, utilities, medications, transportation, and other such needs. Case workers in social service agencies and ministries throughout the community refer potential recipients to the Outreach Coordinator.

If you are willing to volunteer with any of these community mission and outreach efforts or for more information, please contact Aaron York, Outreach Coordinator
