Adult Day Care at James L. West Center

Carpenters on Call

Skilled and unskilled carpenters and other handy individuals volunteer to help build wheelchair ramps and modify homes for wheelchair-bound patients of Cook Children’s Hospital and others in the community.

First Friends Camp

This group hosts a day camp twice a year for children from the Presbyterian Night Shelter and the inner city. Volunteer as a shepherd for the children, or act as a leader or assistant for games, crafts, or other activities.

Requirements: Volunteers over 18 years of age must have a background check on file at the church.

Habitat for Humanity

Join volunteers of various skill levels and future homeowners to build houses and lives. In January 2007, we helped build the 50th First Presbyterian-sponsored house in partnership with Trinity Habitat for Humanity!

PNS Playgroups

Make a difference in the lives of the children living at the Presbyterian Night Shelter. Take part in a weekly playgroup to help them "just be kids" on the second or fourth Tuesday of each month; or, help start a group on the first or third Tuesday of each month. You can lead or assist with games, crafts, and other activities that create a highlight in the children's week.

Samaritan House Supper Clubs

Volunteer once a month to prepare and serve a delicious, nutritious meal for approximately 60 residents of Samaritan House, a local housing program for individuals in need living with HIV/AIDS. Teams serve meals the first and third Tuesday, third Monday, and fifth Monday each month.

Tarrant County Food Bank

Volunteers will sort and package food for distribution to local food pantries. The Food Bank will credit our volunteer hours against costs we incur for food supplied to First H.A.N.D., allowing us to provide more food for less cost.

Requirements: Must be over 16 years of age. Must report in teams of 3 for three-hour shifts, generally Tuesday through Saturday.

Urban GAPs

Volunteers provide meals for our summer work camp groups. They also might host a pool party or barbecue. Also needed are people to interact with the groups socially and spiritually.

Requirements: Youth are welcome. Volunteers over 18 years of age must have a background check on file in the church office.

Van Drivers

Van drivers provide transportation to and from the Penn Street campus for shut-ins on Sunday mornings. They also drive children from Daggett Elementary to the Hemphill campus for Kid's Connection after school and transport our Sudanese refugee family to and from church on Sunday morning.

Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license. Must be over 21 years of age and under 71 years of age.
