Children's Music
Children of all ages enjoy a variety of opportunities to grow as young musicians and participate in worship leadership. Our graded choral and instrumental programs offer our children, Pre-K through 5th grade, the opportunity to be active participants in the life of our church through their time and talent. The Children’s Music program also reinforces the Christian education of our members through the music of the liturgical seasons and the biblical texts that are part of the music. All of the Children's Choirs participate in worship and special concerts throughout the year. The Children’s Music Ministry is also proud to present its annual Music and Arts Camp for elementary aged children and our Pre School Music and Arts Camp for our youngest musicians.
CAROL CHOIR
The Carol Choir is the first step in our elementary music program. Students, Pre K. through Second grade comprise this vocal choir. Fun, fellowship, and music education are incorporated in our weekly rehearsals. Singers in the Carol Choir will discover their musical talents while learning to sing on pitch, learn to read basic music notation, and learning to be a part of Worship leadership through their musical talent.
CHORISTERS
Choristers is the choir for all students, Third through Fifth grade. This diversity of this group is impressive. The Choristers continue their choral development with a wide range of anthems that expands their vocal range and abilities. The Orff family of instruments are incorporated into the music life of this group. The children learn to play the wide variety of percussion instruments while increasing their music theory with more complicated rhythms and music notation. The first step in the Handbell Ministry of First Presbyterian takes place in this group as well. These young ringers have many opportunities to participate in worship as a solo choir or as accompanists to one of the vocal choirs. Sound ringing techniques and music theory are taught, strengthening these young musicians' skills and music education.
ELEMENTARY MUSIC AND ARTS CAMP
Each summer, the Children’s Music Ministry of First
Presbyterian presents its noted Music and Arts Camp for all children who have completed first through fifth grades. This outstanding program is a week of incredible music experiences for both the novice and experienced musician. Each day, all campers have classes in handbells or tone chimes, vocal choir, drama, art, recreation, and Orff. The fourth and fifth grade campers also choose an elective class of guitar, drumming, or art masterclass. Campers begin each day at 9 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. Two snacks are provided each day and on Friday a pizza party for lunch. On Friday evening, everyone is invited to join us for our closing concert and musical. It is your opportunity to discover how much your child has learned in their week at camp.
PRE-SCHOOL MUSIC AND ARTS CAMP FOR 4 AND 5 OLDS
The Children's Music Ministry of First Presbyterian is excited to present the second
annual Music and Arts Camp for our youngest stars. Music and Arts Camp is an incredible opportunity for our younger musicians to experience the joy and love of music and art in new and creative ways. Our program will include hands on learning every day. Our campers will learn to play chimes, percussion instruments, and the Orff instruments. Everyone will find out how fun singing in a choir can be. Art exploration will uncover the hidden artists in each of our children. Camp will begin each day at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. All of our campers will receive a camp T-shirt and enjoy a mid-morning snack each day. All children, ages 4 through Kindergarten, are invited to attend this fun-filled week.
