Youth Ministry
Sunday night Youth Group, small group Bible studies, retreats, Confirmation, special events, service projects, and mission trips are some of the ways God works to enrich and transform the lives of middle and high school students (grades 6-12) at First Presbyterian Church.
First Presbyterian believes in offering many opportunities for its youth, and the heart and soul of the youth ministry are the weekly and monthly service and study opportunities. Youth leaders seek to provide a fun and exciting environment for passionate students to grow together in Christ Jesus and strive to make the Youth Group a place where all are welcomed, a place where all are loved and accepted for who they are, a place where they are free to be their true selves, and a place to eat together and laugh a lot as we all seek to serve God and our neighbors!
Church school classes for 6th and 7th graders, 8th graders and high school youth are offered Sunday mornings from 10-10:45 a.m.. Additionally, Bible studies are held at youths’ homes on Wednesday evenings throughout the school year and summer months. Youth groups for middle school and high school students are held on Sunday evenings, beginning at 4:30 p.m., providing fellowship, study and devotional exercises. The youth groups’ most important mission is to help youth study and understand God’s Word. First Presbyterian youth also host speakers and attend events at other churches that will enrich their faith journeys.
Youth participate in weekly mission activities such as the church’s First HAND ministry and Worship on Wednesday service, as well as travelling on mission trips each summer. They attend a playgroup for children living at the Presbyterian Night Shelter each month, host a yearly Christmas party for the blind and serve on committees, lending a youth voice to the church’s decision-making bodies.
In addition to working with committees, youth are involved in worship as song leaders, liturgists and musicians, and as worship leaders during the church’s annual Youth Sunday worship services. They also travel to the Grace Presbytery worship celebration.
Other offerings include Grace Presbytery’s Senior High Youth Conference (SHYC), an annual conference at Austin College which attracts 700 participants; a ski trip during the Christmas break; a Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl football game and more.
In addition, the youth music ministry allows youth to express their faith through choral and instrumental works, both during worship services at First Presbyterian and at festivals and trips around the country.
Please contact Associate Pastor for Youth Josh Stewart (817-335-1231) with any questions or concerns about our youth or college-aged activities.
