Worship Services

Bread and Cup

First Presbyterian Church worships three times each Sunday:

  • A traditional worship service at 8 a.m. in the Chapel;
  • A blended service at 9 a.m. in the Great Hall with a casual atmosphere and diverse music styles;
  • A traditional service at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary, with music led by the Chancel Choir and Organ.

We invite you to visit and experience our church as we hear God’s message and strive to live it in our daily lives. Visitors are always welcome. Childcare is available during the 9 and 11 a.m. services.

In addition to our Sunday services, we host Worship on Wednesday! (WOW!) each week at Hope Works, 1701 Hemphill Street. WOW! offers fellowship, a meal, worship and study activities to enrich participants' spiritual needs.

Worship at First Pres

First Presbyterian offers worship throughout the week. In addition to our three Sunday worship services, we also offer Worship on Wednesdays (WOW!) at Community Crossroads (1516 Hemphill St.), morning and Kirkin' of the Tartans processionalmid-day prayer during the week and other special services of worship, such as services of wholeness and healing.

Parking for the physically challenged is available at the entrances for all worship areas. Worship areas in the Great Hall, chapel and sanctuary are wheelchair accessible and personal sound systems and large-print bulletins are available in the Sanctuary.

Children of all ages are welcome in worship. The Childcare Center, located on the second floor, is available during all worship and education hours on Sundays. Special children’s worship bags containing crayons, paper and quiet activity booklets are located outside the Great Hall and Sanctuary.

During the 11 a.m. service of worship, children are invited to the front of the sanctuary for a special message d
Great Hall worship serviceuring the “Moment with the Children.” Following this time, children ages five and younger who would prefer not to stay in worship are invited to attend childcare.

Throughout the year, we worship in special ways...

    • Children’s Sabbath and Youth Sunday celebrate the gifts and contributions of our children and youth. These services are led entirely by the young people of our church, from singing and prayers to scripture readings.
    • Kirkin’ of the Tartans, held annually in February, celebrates the Presbyterian Church’s Scottish heritage. A colorful procession of tartan banners opens this very special service and afternoon, which includes everything from bagpipes to shortbread!
    • Holy Week services are held each year during the week preceding Easter. Each day brings a noon service and evening services Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Easter Sunday rounds out Holy Week with a sunrise service and fellowship breakfast, along with three morning services.
    • Christmas Eve brings a multitude of services. From an early evening, family-oriented service, to a late evening candlelight service, we offer something for everyone on this special night.
