Children's Music & Arts Program

Children > Music

Children of all ages enjoy a variety of opportunities to grow as young musicians and participate in worship leadership. Our graded choral and instrumental programs offer our children age-appropriate musical skills that become more advanced with age and experience. All of the Children's Choirs participate in worship and special concerts throughout the year. In addition, our singers participate in the Choristers Guild Children's Choir Festival held each Spring. This Festival brings together over 300 young singers from throughout the area, to work with guest clinicians and to present a touching choral program that is truly inspiring. First Presbyterian is also proud to present its annual Music and Arts Camp. This camp is offered every summer for all students, Kindergarten - Fifth Grade.

Music Ministry at First Presbyterian begins with the very young. Pre-school children have two possibilities to begin their musical education. First Presbyterian is proud and excited to be a Logos Mission Church. Through this dynamic program, we offer a wonderful curriculum that includes our pre-school children. In Logos, our younger musicians experience the joy of music that reinforces Bible stories and our liturgical calendar. Another opportunity for our younger musicians to experience the joy of music is through our Day School. The FPC Day School program is a leader in preschool education, boasting an outstanding rating from NAEYC. Music Education is part of the Day School program. Students receive regular music instruction that includes rhythm, singing, movement, instrument exploration, and musical games. Music classes are taught by Susan LaPointe, Director of Children's Music Ministry at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Worth.

Carol Choir

The Carol Choir is the first step in our elementary music program. Students, Kindergarten through Second grade comprise this vocal choir. Fun, fellowship, and music education are incorporated in our weekly rehearsals. Singers in the Carol Choir will discover their musical talents while learning to sing accurately develop their singing voice for use in worship and learn to read music notation. We will also experience the general seasons of the Christian year within the context of music.

Choristers

Choristers is the vocal choir for all students, Third through Fifth grade. This choir continues the musical development of our choral program while adding a new dimension to their range of talents. The Choristers incorporate Orff instruments into their music education. The choir learns the many different instruments in the Orff family and accompany themselves and other choirs with the Orff instruments and tone chimes.

Young Ringers

The first step in the Handbell Ministry of First Presbyterian is our Young Ringers. Students, Third through Fifth grade, who wish to share their love of music through handbells, are invited to join us. These young ringers will have many opportunities to participate in worship as a solo choir or as accompanists to one of the vocal choirs. Sound ringing techniques and music theory are taught, strengthening these young musicians' skills and music education.

Music & Arts Camp

This year, FPC offers two Music & Arts camps!

Music and Arts Camp for 1st through 5th grades, July 21 - 25, $125. In an ever-changing world, our children provide opportunities for us to develop faith, character, integrity and all of those family values that God has set before us. "Its OK to be Different" is this year's theme for Music and Arts Camp 2008. Once again, our incredible staff will be here to sing, dance, ring, and create. Each day, our campers will sing in choir, ring chimes or handbells, create beautiful works of art, play the Orff instruments, drumming , and learn how to be actors and actresses. Our older campers will also choose a special elective to participate in that includes advanced art, guitar, and drumming. Our day begins at 9:00 and ends at 3:15. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided each day as well as a pizza lunch party on Friday. Camp will conclude with a grand presentation of music and drama on Friday evening. Join us as we plant God's musical seeds and watch them grow!
